OK: I want to empower people. But how?
There are many ways of doing it. But they all have something in common:
They rely on good storytelling.
Storytelling is essential. The realization started to sink in when I was writing my first research papers during my PhD. Why should readers care about what we had to say? Fortunately, my doctoral advisor had figured out the importance of the why. Our work and writing started to evolve around this perennial question: Why do we do what we do?
The why had to be a good story to reach people–emotionally.
Over time, I started to understand that storytelling has even more far-reaching consequences. Almost everything under the umbrella of “culture” is based on storytelling. Shared stories – including myths and fiction – form the basis for large-scale cooperation.
Good storytelling is invaluable.
So, here is my take. This blog is a personal playground, where I experiment with all kinds of storytelling. To educate, to motivate, and maybe even to entertain.
I write about AI, magic, education, and many other things. Sometimes, I will simply document insights that happened to me: from reading books, from meeting people, or from work.
